Honestly, it 's one of two fertilizer's I use, does it need to smell for a month????????
I'm not complaining about the brand. It's fantastic, as the plants (even the ever increasingly irritating me Brush Cherry's) are responding in spectacular fashion. Does it need to smell more than two days after I use it? And, yes, I follow the instructions and I'm sober 78% of the time I use it. I'm just asking. If the answer is yes, then I'll shut up.
I think some would say that the more it smells, the better job it does. But, that being said, I do not like the smell at all :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, Turling, unfortunately, fish emulsion smells to high heaven for days on end after you apply it. BUT, the aftermath is absolutely worth it. Plants of every ilk swear by it, and so do I. Just don't leave a bucket of it lying around for your pet pooch (if you happen to have one) to find it, cause find it they will, and they will be attracted to it in the most unseemly fashion. Been there, done that.
ReplyDeletedead fish do smell don't they? can't be helped I'm afraid...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning. I've been looking at trying some.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. While I was hoping for a simple "add some xx to the mix and it goes away", this is about what I expected. And, yes, I can't argue the results even in the short time we've been using it. I'm scouring e-bay as I type looking for some used firefighting air mask apparatus. Keep your fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteAnd, camissonia, I have a two year old. It was like trying to bathe someone that had been hit with a skunk.
Hahaha...I need to give my plants a good feeding but have been procrastinating because of the smell. The plants sure do love it though.
ReplyDeleteHa! I just bought some Alaska last week and I figured it would smell bad but not that bad...oh my gosh does that have a nasty odor...the bottle said "deodorized' on it and if that's what deodorized smells like, I would hate to smell the real deal : )
ReplyDeleteI was out putting my Hollywood Juniper into the ground tonight and noticed that it's not as bad where the plants are in the ground. It's worse around the potted plants. Not to worry, though, as it was in the mid-80's today, which means the cows in nearby Chino will be overpowering everything soon. And, surprisingly, that's a smell I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt's even fresher here at the source and just as stinky. My nose just doesn't register quite how bad it is, possibly because my garden is in a bit of a wind tunnel. That or the alyssum covers up the stink. Can't live without it though, it's magic in the garden.
ReplyDeleteChristine in Alaska
Thank you for stopping by Christine. I'm hoping it's one of those smells I become conditioned to. Keep your fingers crossed.
