Blooming Onions!!!!

We have blooming onions!!  Ok, they're not chopped and deep fried, but they're on their way.

It's not much, but it's the first thing we've ever grown from seed.  And, I'm really hoping it's an actual onion and not a blade of grass my wife propped up as a cruel joke.  At this point, it's 50/50 either way.

There is a second one, though.

You really have to squint for that one.  And imagine.  Imagining helps.  A lot.

These are the yellow onions we planted about a week ago.  I think it was a week.  Again, a journal would come in handy.  Then, actually writing things in it would need to follow.  Don't hold your breath.

Lastly, Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there.  We'll be having a fun filled day wine tasting in the Temecula Valley, which is our local wine region.  Only fifty miles away, so if we ever become hundred milers, we at least have the wine covered.

  1. I'll bet those are onions. They sprouted fast! As for the journal, I'm good at writing down what I planted on a calendar but then I never remember to log anything else (what else is blooming or when the seeds sprout, first harvest, etc.) Enjoy Sunday!

  2. Thank you, Sherlock. Keeping my fingers crossed on the onions. The journal will be one of those things we talk about for months before buying one, then talk about for more months before writing in, and so on, and so on....

  4. A potential onion sproutling! I feel your excitement as a couple weeks ago I myself had sowed some eggplant, tomato, and pepper seeds and am just beginning to see some miniscule green stuff emerging in the general vicinity. Just can't tell yet if they are legit or not. But I digress. Ooh...Temecula Valley wineries! Mount Palomar Winery is one of my favs. Their Castelletto Sangiovese or Trovato are pretty darned good, and you don't have to be inebriated from the wine-tasting experience to actually think so. Another staple in my household is Wilson Creek Winery's Almond Champagne - a great summer bubbly that won't break the bank.

  5. Noelle, it was the fried onion ring on the package that sold them to us. Now, I just have to wait a few more..er..weeks? Months? I should probably find that out.

Camissonia, best of luck with your veggies. Mount Palomar is our favorite, so much so, we became club members. The Tantamount and Shorty's Bistro Red always grace our table. The Almond Champagne is the first thing we get from Wilson Creek's tent when we go to the wine festival in a few weeks. Can't wait!
